We describe Roam Research’s early power-user wedge. The historical account identifies AI-safety researchers and rationalist Bay Area thinkers as early communities and says the first 1,000 or so users came exclusively through enterprise license deals with a handful of those organizations. Roam’s low-floor, high-ceiling design and its “second brain” point of view made a difficult workflow attractive to users who wanted power. The practical lesson is to choose users for whom the learning curve solves a painful problem and give them a workflow and belief worth sharing.
